All About Vishnu Vinod – Debut, Achievements, IPL Price & Family Details cricbites.com
Vishnu Vinod is a talented cricketer from Kerala who has made a name for himself with his fearless batting and wicket-keeping skills. Born on December 2, 1993 in Pathanamthitta, he grew up with a passion for cricket. He did his schooling at MGM Higher Secondary School in Tiruvalla and later studied Political Science from Mar Thoma College. From his early days, he was known for his ability to play aggressive strokes, whether opening the innings or finishing the game. Apart from wicket-keeping, he can also bowl at medium pace, which adds an extra dimension to his game. His rise in domestic cricket reflects hard work and determination, and he has gradually built a reputation as one of Kerala’s most reliable performers.
Vishnu began his professional journey by making his T20 debut for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2014. That same year, he also played his first List A match, and in 2016 he made his first-class cricket debut with the Ranji Trophy. His early years were promising, but the turning point came in the 2018–19 Ranji season when he scored an unbeaten 193 runs, and proved his ability to play long innings. In the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he became Kerala’s top run-scorer by scoring over 500 runs in just eight matches, scoring three centuries at an average of over 60. Such performances propelled his name forward, and he soon became a familiar figure in domestic cricket. In 2021, he played one of his most memorable innings – 65 runs off just 26 balls with seven sixes in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Later that year, he scored a fighting century with Sijomon Joseph, creating a record partnership that helped Kerala secure a crucial victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The innings underlined his versatility as both a powerful striker and a reliable middle-order batsman.
His journey in the Indian Premier League has been a mix of challenges and new opportunities. Vishnu first entered the IPL in 2017 when Royal Challengers Bangalore picked him in place of KL Rahul. He played three matches that season but failed to produce any major performances, leading to his release. For a few years, he was unsold before getting a chance with Delhi Capitals in 2021 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022, although he did not get a chance to play any matches. In 2023, Mumbai Indians bought him for a base price of ₹20 lakh and retained him in 2024. His big breakthrough came in the 2025 IPL auction when Punjab Kings signed him for ₹95 lakh after bidding with Mumbai and Kolkata. This sharp increase in value showed that his domestic achievements and aggressive batting style have increased his demand. Although his IPL figures have been mediocre so far, with a top score of 30 in six matches, franchises continue to back him as a promising finisher.
Away from the limelight, Vishnu prefers to keep his personal life private. He has deep ties to his hometown in Kerala and despite the popularity that professional cricket has given him, he maintains a sedentary lifestyle. Not much is known about his family in public, as he prefers to focus more on his game than the media. His journey so far reflects resilience – starting from the local circuit in Kerala, overcoming setbacks in the IPL, and gradually building a reputation as a reliable and exciting cricketer. Still at his age, Vishnu Vinod is seen as a player who can contribute more to both his state and the IPL in the coming seasons. His story is one of steady growth, perseverance and determination, making him a name to watch in Indian cricket.
